BELIEVE: A Journey of Faith and Light", a group of students wrestle with questions about faith, confidence, and change. Guided by an Angel, they travel through memories from their own lives—times when they dreamed freely, doubted themselves, leaned on friends, found courage, and learned to let go. Each memory reveals a different way belief shows up in everyday life. By the end of the journey, the children realize that belief never left them; it quietly shaped who they are becoming. The story encourages young audiences to trust in God’s presence, in themselves, and in the love that connects us all.
Our Drama Club will begin as a learning and rehearsal experience for students. If all goes well, the club will grow into a full stage production of Believe: A Journey of Faith and Light. We will keep families informed and share performance dates as plans are finalized. Casting roles will be sent by email on Monday, February 2, 2026. Thank you for your patience as we thoughtfully place each child in a role that helps them grow and shine. All students who plan to audition must complete the Google Form prior to auditions. Anyone that wants to be in the play, MUSTaudition for a part, even if they would like to be in the Ensemble only. The ONLY part that does not require an audition but must be at the rehearsals is the Stage Crew.
AUDITION PREP GUIDE Grades 1–5 Auditions are a chance to show who you are, not to be perfect. Come ready to try your best and have fun!
Roles Available for Audition
LEAD ROLES (Grades 3-5) These parts have a solo singing part + singing with the full group. If you are auditioning for one of these parts, you need to be comfortable singing in front of people. Students interested in a lead role should prepare one line (below) from that character as well as a verse from a song they are comfortable singing:
Lia - thoughtful, questioning, searching for faith
“What if I really am too quiet… or not enough of anything?”
Michael - steady, hopeful, quietly confident
“Belief isn’t just a feeling. It’s trusting—especially when you don’t see answers.”
Molly - empathetic, relational, emotionally aware
“Love doesn’t disappear when paths change. It travels with you.”
Daniel - imaginative, unsure, learning confidence
“What if I try and fail? What if I’m not brave enough?”
Angel - guides through the journey
“You’re not alone in your questions. You wonder because you care.” Teacher Anna - grounded, warm, strong faith Belief doesn’t always announce itself. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it grows slowly. But when we’re open to it, it’s there.
(Memorization is NOT required for the auditions, but lines will need to be memorized if there is a show.)
YOUNGER LEAD ROLES (Grades 1-3) Younger Lead Roles represent younger versions of the main characters and appear in specific scenes. These roles also include featured moments but are designed for younger performers. They will have to memorize a part of a song. Students interested in a younger lead role should prepare one line from that character as well as a verse from a song they are comfortable singing:
Younger Lia
“What if I really am too quiet… or not enough of anything?”
Younger Michael
“Belief isn’t just a feeling. It’s trusting—especially when you don’t see answers.”
Younger Molly
“Love doesn’t disappear when paths change. It travels with you.”
Younger Daniel
“What if I try and fail? What if I’m not brave enough?” ENSEMBLE ROLES (Grades 1-5) Ensemble members help bring the story to life. They sing, move, and act as different people and memories throughout the show, including classmates, dreamers, and friends. Ensemble roles are important and appear in many scenes. Ensemble roles should still audition but can let us know that they prefer to be in the ensemble.
STAGE CREW (Grades 2-5) Stage Crew members work behind the scenes to help the show run smoothly. They move props and set pieces, help with scene changes, and make sure everything is ready on stage. Stage Crew roles are very important and help bring the story to life. Stage crew roles are not required to audition, but we will need a list of students interested in being the stage crew so you must sign up on the Google Form listed above.
WHAT TO PREPARE FOR AUDITION
Each student should prepare three short things:
A SHORT SCRIPT READING
(Everyone auditions with lines — even if they want ensemble) You will be asked to read one short section from the script. You do not need to memorize it. What we’re looking for:
Clear speaking voice
Expressive reading (emotion!)
Willingness to try
Tip for students: Read slowly. Imagine who you’re talking to.
2. A SHORT SONG EXCERPT (if auditioning for a main singing part)
(10–20 seconds only) You may sing:
A song from the show OR
A short, familiar song you already know
Suggested song options from the show:
A Million Dreams - from The Greatest Showman
True Colors - from Trolls/Cyndi Lauper
Get Back Up Again - Trolls
He Lives In You - Lion King
This Is Me - The Greatest Showman
For Good - Wicked
Other acceptable options:
Any school-appropriate song
Hymns or church songs
A verse of “Amazing Grace” or “This Little Light of Mine”
What we’re listening for:
Comfort singing out loud
Staying on pitch (as best you can!)
Expressing the meaning of the song
Tip for students: Sing in your natural voice — louder than talking, softer than shouting.
3. A SIMPLE MOVEMENT ACTIVITY
(No dance experience needed) You may be asked to:
Walk across the stage with confidence
Freeze in a “brave” pose
Show an emotion (happy, worried, proud, calm)
What we’re watching for:
Willingness to move
Confidence and focus
Following directions
Tip for students: Big feelings = big bodies. Use your whole self.
